Linux Drawbacks

7 10 2006

• The most prominent of Linux’s drawbacks is this: It does not support USB (universal serial bus) peripherals.

• MS Windows software is fairly easy to make because most everything has been done before. This is not true with linux. Most everything has been attempted, but never really finished.

• Lack of support from hardware makers. ( linux has to reverse engineer drivers for most hardware )

•Lack of “commercial” software ( microsoft won’t make office for linux, Adobe won’t make any of thier desktop apps for linux… )

• Sometimes, internal components, such as built-in sound chips, will fail to work. And many peripherals, such as video cameras, aren’t supported at all.

• If you don’t pay attention, you won’t get anywhere. dabbling will pretty much get you nowhere.

• Want to play that latest game? well, you’ll have to run a Win32 emulator, or wait for the davs to release it for Linux (probably never)

• The learning curve is as hard as you make it while learnin Linux. You have to realize you DON’T have Microsoft Office, WinAMP5, Destinator, Centrafuse, and voice software. Don’t listen to the people who say “well, just make one.” It isn’t that easy. Not everyone is a programmer.

• Most Linux users don’t hate Windows, they simply prefer Linux
